Simpliz Boys Chandor seize victory in Shawn Memorial Cup 5-A-Side Football Tournament

In a resounding victory, Simpliz Boys Chandor clinched the championship title of the Shawn Memorial Cup 5-A-Side Football Tournament. Simpliz Boys Chandor’s outstanding performance led to a staggering 13-2 win over Siolim United, securing their place as the ultimate victors of the tournament. The tournament, which took place on Sunday, witnessed the participation of 20 competitive teams, culminating in an impressive showcase of skill and sportsmanship.

The victorious team, Simpliz Boys Chandor, received a cash award of Rs 20,000 along with a trophy. Meanwhile, the runners-up Siolim United were granted a cash prize of Rs 10,000, coupled with a trophy. 

Notable individual achievements added to the tournament’s excitement, with Spiro from Baklava United honored as the best Striker and Royston Rodrigues of Simpliz Boys Chandor recognized as the best goalkeeper. Shawn Pereira, also from Simpliz Boys Chandor, claimed the title of Player of the Tournament, demonstrating exceptional talent and expertise throughout the competition.

The tournament’s inauguration saw the presence of the Calangute MLA and the deputy Sarpanch of Parra. A massive turnout of spectators, including friends, family, and passionate football enthusiasts, contributed to the lively atmosphere and fervor surrounding the event.

The event, organized by friends of the Shawn Michael Fernandes in honour of his birthday, served as a commemoration of Shawn’s life and his love for football, following the tragic passing of Shawn, his brother-in-law Valdrofe and his cousin Abegail in September.
