CANACONA: Reacting to the news reportage of Canacona schools in Dainik Herald and O Heraldo, Director of Education Shailesh Zingade said that since 1990, in all 23 government primary schools in Canacona have been shut due to low enrolment.
He said of these, the school buildings at Kindlem, Chiplem, Borus, Tamne, Shisheval and Delem are in dilapidated condition while those at Aagas, Tudal, Gaalye, Shelim, Taanshi, Sheli-Loliem, Mudkud and Agonda are in good state.
Except for two buildings, the rest have been handed over to the Directorate of Health Services,” said Zingade.
“The condition has been imposed on the respective departments to repair and use the buildings. The building of the government primary school at Sheli is handed over to the Department of Environment while the one at Mudkud has been handed over to CDPO,” Zingade added.
He added that 57 government primary schools in Canacona are in good condition and have been repaired from time to time.
