Since Liberation, Thaalni is deprived of basic facilities

CANACONA: The government may be celebrating 60 years of Liberation, however, Thaalni village in the Gaodongri Panchayat jurisdiction still lacks basic facilities such as tar roads and even drinking water.

Many youth from the village had contributed in Goa’s struggle for freedom. However, their future generations haven’t been fortunate enough to taste the sweet fruits of their ancestors’ sacrifices.

The village is surrounded by Talpona River from three sides and since it is not connected with a bridge and road, the villagers have to walk three kms to Satoli. During the monsoon — June to September — the village stays disconnected with the rest of State.

“If a bridge is built near Kumbhegaal bandhara for four-wheelers, then at least one demand of the villagers will be fulfilled,” said one of the locals.

Krushna Desai, Jeeva Desai, Paavto Desai, Manju Desai, Narayan Desai, Soyru Desai and Ratnakar Desai were some of the freedom fighters, who hail from Thaalni village, and the villagers have expressed disappointment over State’s complete negligence towards them.

Former ministers Vasu Paik Gaonkar, Jagdish Acharya, Isidore Fernandes and Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar have been some of the well-known representatives of the area and locals have expressed hope for the better future for the village especially with Tawadkar currently being the Assembly Speaker.
