PANJIM: In a bid to promote unity among religions, the Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) Goa Zone in association with Hinduism, Christianity and Islam, is hosting a campaign on ‘Peace and Harmony’.
Briefing the media on Thursday, SIO Goa President Akbar Khan said the campaign is part of the vision and mission of the organisation to prepare students and youth to reconstruct the society in the light of divine guidance.
The association claims to have garnered support from all the three religions. “We have support from Shri Gokarn Partgali Jeevottam Math (Hindu community) and the Archbishop secretary Fr Loiola Pereira (Church) also extended his support and guidance. The association of All Goa Muslim Jamaats will also be a part of the campaign,” he said.
The core of the campaign consists of a competitive exam in which students, registered for the exam, study the personalities of the three religions. They are provided with the books on Lord Ram, Jesus and Prophet Mohammed.
“This year, the exams will be held in two categories – juniors (students of Class 5 to 10) and seniors (Class 11 to post graduation). As students return to the campus post the Diwali break, they will be able to register within their respective campus as well as by visiting the organisation website campaign organiser Sohail Naik said.
The last date to register is December 23, 2015 while the exams will be held on January 10, 2016. SIO has been working for the unity of students’ fraternity since its inception in 1982.
