MAPUSA: The Mapusa police have booked a couple from Siolim for allegedly cheating a Uttarakhand native on the pretext selling properties worth Rs 1 crore in the State. The accused have been identified as Reggie Fernandes @ Reggie Hipolito Leo Fernandes and his wife Juliana Dias, both residents of H. No. 86 at Gaunsa Vaddo, Siolim.
Police stated that the couple allegedly lured the complainant Purushottom Agarwal from Dehradun to shell out Rs 1 crore and promised to sell him two properties in Bardez. They also managed to sign an agreement for sale somewhere between January 21, 2019 and July 10, 2023.
However when the accused failed to keep up to their word, the complainant demanded refund of his money.
Police stated that the couple then fraudulently issued a cheque in favour of the complainant which when deposited bounced due to lack of funds.
Agarwal later lodged a complaint against the couple and Mapusa police registered an offence under section 406,420 read with 34 of the Indian Penal Code against the duo for cheating and breach of trust. PI Sitakant Nayak is investigating the case.
