MAPUSA: Siolim residents have threatened to approach NGT if authorities fail to take action against an alleged illegal construction at Danda, Siolim within eight days.
The residents of Danda, Siolim have raised concerns over an illegal construction in the No Development Zone. The locals claimed that the said owner has carried out massive construction which is not even seven metres away from the beach.
They said in this connection the GCZMA had issued show cause notice and stop work notice to the owner in October last year. The owner was given 15 days to explain why action should not be taken initiated along with payment of penalty of Rs 10,00,000. The NGT had issued the stop work order cum show cause notice after it learnt that the owner violated the CRZ notification 2011 by having a massive construction of 20 rooms in Non Development Zone in Survey No 119/1 of Dando, Siolim. The stop work order was issued in terms of Rule 4 of the Environment Protection Rules.
The residents accused the local Siolim Marna Panchayat of being involved in the illegalities by issuing permissions for the said construction.
They claimed that the panchayat cancelled site inspections twice without any valid reason.
The locals also claimed that it’s been nearly a year they had complained against the illegal construction.
