PONDA: The Kavlem Panchayat has finally addressed the grievances of the locals by providing the much-needed facilities such as wood and stretcher for cremation at the crematorium.

Addressing media persons, sarpanch Rajesh Kavlekar said “The Kavlem villagers were facing great hardship due to several various issues, but finally the panchayat has managed to solve these problems. The crematorium was constructed long ago but, in absence of wood required for traditional pyre for cremating the bodies, the villagers were facing hardship in getting the wood.”
Kavlekar said, “There are three crematoriums in Kavlem panchayat jurisdiction and the poor families who can’t afford to pay Rs 2,000 for cremating the bodies of their relatives will not be charged.”
The panchayat has also arranged a stretcher to carry the body to the crematorium.
The issue dominated the gram sabha with locals demanding that the panchayat take the initiative to provide all these facilities. These have now been fulfilled with the locals expressing satisfaction.
The panchayat took initiative with the support of all panchas.
The locals thanked the sarpanch for providing the above facilities at the crematorium.
Sidhesh Naik, a local said, “Earlier, we used to spend Rs 4,000 for bringing wood required for cremation. Now, the panchayat has made the same available at Rs 2,000.”
