Siolim shooting case: Trio gets police remand

Cops hunt for two more accused still on the run

Mapusa: James Savio D’Souza, Mohammad Sahid Maniyar and Suraj Anupkumar Singh who were arrested by the Anjuna police on Wednesday for attacking a Siolim restaurateur, opening fire on his business partner were on Thursday remanded to five days of police custody.

Based on the plea of the police that all the accused were required for custodial interrogation, the JFMC, Mapusa agreed to grant five days of remand. Cops have also launched a manhunt for two other remaining suspects who are on the run.

It may be recalled that the quartet attacked a restaurateur from Siolim with a hard object, abused him, broke the glasses of his restaurant and one of them later pulled out a pistol and fired on his business partner on Wednesday afternoon.

In this connection, the restaurant owner 30-year-old Akshit Anand Shetty, a resident of Vaddy, Siolim, in his complaint to the Anjuna Police stated between 1 pm and 1.40 pm, when the accused under the influence of liquor entered his restaurant and created ruckus. James along with the other accused persons assaulted him with a hard object, abused him and broke the glasses of his restaurant. Later, James pulled out a pistol and fired on his business partner Uday and fled.

The police then arrested James and Mohammad at Morjim, while the pistol which was used in the incident and bullet was seized.

The third accused Suraj, who was about to leave the State, was arrested at Tivim Railway Station. The fourth accused is absconding.

Based on the complaint, an FIR was lodged under Sections 143, 147, 148, 324, 504, 427 and 307 r/w 149 IPC and Section 25 of the Arms Act.Further investigations are on.
