MAPUSA: Irked over irregular water supply, the residents of Maina-Sodiem, Siolim, on Thursday gheraoed the PWD office and confronted the engineer.
The villagers threatened to take to the streets if water supply was not restored at the earliest.
Residents pointed out that for the past 15 days there was not even a drop of water flowing through their taps and accused the officials of diverting water to commercial projects.
They further asked the officer not to issue any fresh connections to any commercial projects in the village till their issue was solved.
“It is only when the issue is raised at the gram sabha or the local MLA intervenes then we get water for few days and then it’s back to square one,” said an irate villager.
“The houses by the roadside are supplied with water through tankers, but those in the interiors are the ones that don’t get a drop,” said another villager.
Mohit Chopdekar, a local, said, “For the last 15 days, we are facing major water problems. The situation is such that we have to go to our relatives places staying in neighbouring villages to have a bath.”
