Canacona Deputy Collector Prataprao Gaunkar on Wednesday assured that fair hearings will be conducted for all individuals who have raised objections after finding their names missing from the electoral rolls following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
Gaunkar said that a total of 323 objections have been received in Canacona alone so far. He explained that during scrutiny, it was found that some individuals possessed foreign nationality, which they themselves acknowledged. However, in several other cases, voters were found to hold valid Indian passports but were working abroad, while in some instances doubts and suspicions were raised regarding eligibility.
He stressed that every objection will be examined on merit and that all affected persons will be given an opportunity to be heard before any final decision is taken.
The deputy collector’s remarks came after a delegation led by former MLA Isidore Fernandes and Canacona Municipal Councillor Shubham Komarpant met him and submitted a memorandum. The delegation sought intervention after Form 7 notices were reportedly issued to 37 voters from a single ward in Loliem, Canacona.
Gaunkar reiterated that the administration is committed to ensuring transparency and fairness in the SIR process and urged residents not to panic, assuring them that due process will be followed in all cases.
