MAPUSA: The Judicial Magistrate First Court (JMFC), Mapusa on Saturday granted bail to Lyndon Sequeira, a resident of Sirsaim, Bardez, who was arrested for allegedly insulting and abusing on-duty lady police officer and circulating a video of it on social media recently.
Sequeira was arrested by the Colvale Police on Friday. According to a police official, following a complaint, Sequeira had applied for anticipatory bail on Friday. As his anticipatory bail application was rejected by the Sessions Court, he was arrested from Mapusa however, he was granted bail on Saturday.
The Colvale police recovered three mobile phone handsets from Sequeira and the same have been attached. A case has been registered against him under sections 354-A, 500, 504, and 509 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Sequeira had recorded a video where he verbally abused and insulted the modesty of the on-duty lady police officer. This video, unfortunately, gained widespread circulation on various social media platforms.
Responding to a formal complaint, the Colvale police promptly initiated legal proceedings by registering an FIR against the accused under sections relevant sections of the IPC. According to the police, Sequeira had uploaded the video the same day when he insulted and abused the on-duty woman police officer.
Fearing arrest, the accused filed anticipatory bail application before the Sessions Court. But the police strongly opposed the anticipatory bail application, and it was ultimately rejected by the Sessions Court.
The case is being investigated by PSI Kunal Naik under the guidance of Colvale PI Vijay Rane.
