PANJIM: The special investigation team (SIT), on Monday, arrested mining baron Prasanna Ghodge in the multi-crore mining scam. He was earlier arrested by Chhattisgarh police for a similar offence.
Ghodge has been booked for cheating the State exchequer to the tune of crores of rupees. He was remanded to six days police custody.
Over a year ago, the Raipur police had arrested Ghodge from a Mumbai hotel for his alleged involvement in Rs 250 crore Goa mining scam and similar scams in five other States including Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. The police teams had also investigated 95 bank accounts registered in the name of eight companies. Ghodge, a native of Belgaum, was operating iron ore businesses in a number of States across the country.
The SIT, in 2012 had registered a case of cheating against him, and two others, based on a complaint by Pankaj Agarwal of Shivnath Minerals and Chemicals, from Raipur, having its branch office at Taleigao, which alleged
that the trio conspired and cheated his company, while purchasing ore.
