PANJIM: The special investigation team (SIT) of the Goa Police on Tuesday filed a chargesheet in the Vasco double murder case involving prime accused Pratima Naik and co-accused Abhijit Korgaonkar for killing two women on January 30.
The 150-page chargesheet comprising statements of 65 witnesses has charged the duo of hatching a criminal conspiracy, murder, destruction of evidence and robbery.
Pratima and her brother-in-law Abhijit are accused of killing her mother-in-law Usha Naik and older sister-in-law Dr Neha Naik while they were asleep. The chargesheet mentions that on the fateful day, Pratima served the victims food and milk laced with sleeping powder.
While Usha dozed off watching TV on the ground floor of the duplex flat, Neha slept on the first floor. Pratima then strangled Usha with a rope and later smothered Neha using a pillow, the chargesheet says. After the incident, the accused inflicted minor injuries to her body to hoodwink the police by portraying it as a case of armed robbery.
Her conflicting statements to the police, and evidence collected from the crime scene, resulted in her arrest and her confession led to the arrest of Abhijit.
