PANJIM: The Special Investigation Team (SIT), investigating the illegal mining cases, Wednesday questioned under secretary (legal) Smita Chandwani at her office at Secretariat. The questioning, by a team of three officers, which began at around 4:30pm continued till after 5:30pm.
Earlier during the day, former Mines Director J B Bhingui made his second appearance before the team at Crime Branch office in Dona Paula. He along with technical assistant Shyam Sawant was questioned extensively, in separate chambers, on Tuesday. Sawant is likely to be called again.
The questioning continues on Thursday as well even as the SIT has not issued any fresh summons as of now. Former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, suspended Mines Director Arvind Lolienkar and former law secretary V P Shetye has been summoned on Saturday. Sources said the team is preparing a set of questions for the three persons, which is why they did not issue fresh summons for Thursday and Friday.
