PANJIM: Former Mines and Geology Director Arvind Lolienkar was quizzed on Saturday for the second time in connection with the ongoing investigation in the multi-crore mining scam. Sources said he was grilled on rampant illegal activities in the mining industry during his stint as the department head.
“He was asked about his role in illegal mining during his tenure, but he denied this, claiming he was oblivious of any illegalities. We are verifying the details. He is likely to be summoned again,” said a senior Special Investigation Team (SIT) official.
Lolienkar had been earlier questioned on Thursday for nearly six hours, after which another former Mines director J B Bhingui and former official A P D’Souza were questioned. Former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, who held the Mines portfolio for 12 years, has been asked to appear before the SIT sleuths on Monday, after he skipped the first summons.
The SIT is investigating criminal case on illegal mining from 2005-2011.
