PANJIM: H L Naturmal Mining Company owner, Harish Melwani has been summoned to remain present before the SIT on Friday morning at 11am at Crime Branch Ribandar in connection with his role in the alleged illegal mining, trading in unaccounted iron ore and misuse of royalty challans.
SIT officials said after interrogation and corroborating with the collected specific material evidence and statement of witnesses SIT is likely to move for his arrest.
Melwani had applied for anticipatory bail and SIT had assured the Court that in the event of forming an opinion on the arrest, then SIT would give Melwani 48 hours notice .
According to the Justice (Retd) M B Shah Commission report, illegal mining to the tune of Rs 35,000 crore took place in the State from 2005 to 2012.
A complaint was filed by the Mines and Geology Department in July 2013 seeking to fix criminal liability on those involved in illegal mining as pointed out by various committees, including the Shah Commission.
