PANJIM: The Special Investigation Team of Goa Police, probing the multi-crore mining scam, has summoned Assistant Geologist Ramnath Shetgaonkar to appear before it for questioning on Tuesday.
The summons was issued Monday, as suspended Mines Director Arvind Lolienkar’s interrogation concluded after a nearly four hours grilling at Crime Branch office, Dona Paula in connection with Kadnekar mining lease.
“We have recorded his detailed statement. As of now, we do not require him for further questioning but as investigation in this case progresses, his presence might be required again,” a senior officer told Herald.
Thus far, the SIT has questioned six persons including former CM Digambar Kamat. The agency is investigating nine illegal mining cases, which have caused a loss of several thousand crores of rupees to the State exchequer. The FIRs prominently include the names of politicians, bureaucrats, and some private individuals for their alleged involvement in the illegalities.
