PANJIM: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) on illegal mining has summoned mine owner Dinar Tarcar for his alleged role in extraction of iron ore worth crores of rupees from different mining leases from 2007-2012, despite not being a leaseholder.
Expediting investigation into illegal mining, SIT has summoned managing directors of all those companies, who operated different mining leases during the period from 2007-2012. These include VM Salgaocar, Timblo Pvt Ltd, Salgaocar Mining India Pvt Ltd, G N Agarwal, Kunda Gharse, Jairam Damodar Naik and Dinar Tarcar amongst others. The Managing Directors of VM Salgaocar, Timblo Pvt Ltd and Salgaocar Mining India Pvt Ltd were questioned on Tuesday.
Sources stated that Tarcar has been summoned for the second time as he failed to appear earlier. The second notice issued on Monday has directed him to appear in person next week.
Sources stated that SIT is investigation role of Tarcar’s Minesace Minerals Pvt Ltd involved in extraction of iron ore from different mining leases in lakhs of metric tonnes worth crores of rupees during 2007-2012, without being a leaseholder.
Sources further informed that Tarcar will be quizzed on the alleged illegal mining leases run by him.
“Tarcar has taken over leases from its original owners, which is in contravention of section 37 of MMDR Act. As per this Act, one cannot take over the lease unless approved by the State and Centre. Since he failed to appear in the first summons, we have issued him another summons as well as original owners of mining leases now alleged to be illegally run by Tarcar,” the source added.
It is learnt that Tarcar will be quizzed about turnover, which runs in thousand crore, from each mining lease too.
HERALD has also learnt that SIT has recently appointed four officers to probe into alleged illegality and irregularity into 126 mining leases, which are being investigated based on Supreme Court’s 2018 order. This probe is a part of the main case being probed by the SIT.
