PANJIM: The North Goa Special Court on Saturday disposed the anticipatory application filed by former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat who withdrew the application in the main mining case.
Kamat withdrew the petition after Special Investigation Team (SIT) acknowledged in the court that 48 hours prior notice would be given to him in case of any arrest.
In another case, that of condonation of delay in renewing Praful Hede mining lease, the SIT had give the same assurance in the court of 48 hours notice to Kamat in case an arrest is required.
Kamat is being investigated by SIT in two different mining cases following the Justice M B Shah Commission observation that several mining companies were allowed to fraudulently use the clause of condonation of delay for renewal of their leases. Kamat was first questioned in the case in February 2014 and later in April 2017.
A complaint was filed by Mines and Geology Department in July 2013 seeking to fix criminal liability on those involved in illegal mining as pointed out by various committees, including the Shah Commission.
