ANJUNA: Post Herald’s ground report of blatantly illegal construction of a suspected nightclub in Comunidade land, a jolted village panchayat of Anjuna- Caisua has ordered a site inspection by serving notice to the Comunidade.

Herald, in its Wednesday edition, had reported on a hill being destroyed for an access road to a suspected under-construction nightclub in Anjuna, the Anjuna-Caisua Village Panchayat has scheduled a site inspection of the Comunidade land on Thursday (November 10).

Based on the complaint by activist DJ Gambino Drago, the panchayat has also issued a stop work order notice to Anjuna Comunidade, the owner of the land in Survey No 206.

The Panchayat order states, “Before commencement of any construction work, prior permission is required to be obtained from the panchayat under Section 66(1) of the Goa Panchayat Raj Act, 1994. But you have failed to take permission from this office for the said work. In this connection, you are hereby directed to stop the illegal construction immediately of receipt of this notice.”

Meanwhile, when Team Herald visited the spot on Wednesday, the site and the access road were found blocked with sheets and wooden sticks. There were no workers present at the site and the machinery was also not operational.

“We have issued a notice to the comunidade and have scheduled a site inspection at 11.30 am on Thursday. Both the parties have been informed about the same,” the Anjuna sarpanch, Chimulkar, said.

The sarpanch said the person concerned has not obtained any permission from the panchayat for the said project.

Ex-sarpanch and activist Surendra Govekar said, “Outsiders are coming and doing whatever they want because they are not afraid of the law. Outsiders are carrying out construction within 200 meters by violating the CRZ norms and that too under the nose of the Goa State Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA).”

“Several concrete constructions have come up but the GCZMA is not initiating any action despite complaints of tree felling and hill cutting. The GCZMA is encouraging such constructions and projects,” Govekar added.
