PANJIM: Slamming the violent protests against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the BJP National Spokesman Dr Sambit Patra on Wednesday alleged that the prevailing situation has been created to destabilise the country.
“The prevailing situation in the country is created today to destabilise the country. They want the government to backtrack but that will never happen,” Patra said while interacting with the BJP workers, businessmen and media in the city here on Wednesday.
He said since Narendra Modi has been elected as prime minister in 2014, he has been working to resolve the issues which have been pending for 70 years.
“With the thumping majority he got in 2014 and 2019 he was duty bound to resolve the pending issues like Article 370, triple talaq, Ayodhya dispute and CAA,” he stated adding Article 370 was like a demon who nobody wanted to touch but Modiji did and did with aplomb.
“Farooq Abdullah had said that even after 1000 years Modi will not be able to abrogate Article 370 and if he tries there will be bloodshed; Kashmir will not remain part of India,” he said adding, “I cannot see any bloodshed and yes Kashmir is still part of India”.
“The abrogation of Article 370 has saved 73 per cent lives of Jawans. Since 1990, 48,000 people have been killed due to insurgency,” Patra said.
Dr Patra said that since independence the CAA has been amended for the ninth time.
“Jawaharlal Nehru, Mahatma Gandhi and Manmohan Singh all wanted to grant citizenships to persecuted minorities in Pakistan but only when Modiji does this it becomes a crime,” he said.
Dr Patra said that the PM also has clarified the CAA is not to takeaway anyone’s citizenship but to give to those who have been persecuted for their religion.
He refused to take queries on NRC saying it is still imaginary and not an Act.
On Modiji’s claims that India can be 5 trillion-economy by 2025, he said, it was very much possible provided everyone contributes.
“When Modiji took over, the economy was just two trillion and in just one term it reached three trillion so another two trillion in 5 years is very much an achievable target,” he said.
Dr Patra said that India is still the brightest economy in the world despite the slowdown in the entire world.
“We are now placed at 63rd in ease of doing business. In 2014 we were lingering at 144th place. The Foreign Direct Investment is to tune of 457.5 billion dollars,” he said.
Further, he said the Centre intends to invest Rs 103 lakh crore in infrastructure development.
“Infrastructure push will give a boost to employment,” he said.
