Six days and counting, but Asilo still to send alcohol test report

No real urgency of getting Alcohol Estimation test reports is visible, Panjim cops lament delay, there’s no word from Asilo Hospital which is conducting tests

PANJIM: It has been six days since a speeding jeep killed scooter-bound Maruti Sawant (69) and critically injured his wife. While the person “identified” as driving the car, Amar Aleem Bernad has been named the main accused, the crucial results of the Alcohol Estimation test, due from the Asilo Hospital, Mapusa are yet to arrive.

Herald sent reporters to the Panjim Police Station and Asilo Hospital. At the Asilio Hospital, the Herald reporter waited for two hours to meet the Head of Pathological lab who wasn’t available. The Medical Superintendent didn’t meet the Herald reporter too on the ground that meetings are scheduled the whole day.

Meanwhile, there appears to be no real urgency in getting the Alcohol Estimating tests out. This is important is determining and closing in on all charges. The Panjim Police have however lamented the delay in receiving the test results.

On Friday, Police Constable Vinit Kurtikar said that it takes minimum 10 days for the Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) estimation test report to arrive.

Lamenting the delay that is caused by the North Goa District Hospital staff over furnishing the test reports, Kurtikar said, “The police have to take a continuous follow-up on whether the test reports are ready or not. The testing team at Asilo Hospital never bothers to inform the police station about the same.”

The question that arises here is why does the testing team take 10 days to carry out a simple blood alcohol content estimation test?
