Six escapees from Apna Ghar traced

PANJIM: The Old Goa Police have traced the six minor boys, who escaped from Apna Ghar late on Tuesday night. The juvenile delinquents, booked in a cheating case at Calangute, jumped from the window at Apna Ghar in Merces.

SDPO Uttam Raut Dessai, on Wednesday, told reporters that the juveniles had planned to escape to Mumbai via rail.

“During the search, three juveniles were found near a private school in Old Goa. They were hiding at a construction site. The juveniles confessed to the search team that they planned to flee to Mumbai via railway. Accordingly, we laid a trap at Karmali railway station and caught three others while they were trying to board a train early morning (Thursday). All the six are lodged back in the Apna Ghar,” he said.

The police were informed about the escape of juveniles at around 10.30 pm on Tuesday. On inquiry it was found that the boys escaped by climbing down from the window using bed sheets tied together. “They had removed the window grill to escape. They later jumped off the compound wall,” Dessai said adding that five boys are involved in cheating at a shop at Calangute.

As the escape incident has once again brought to the fore notorious activities by the inmates, the police have suggested strengthening of security at Apna Ghar. The lights and CCTVs outside the structure in and around the vicinity have also been suggested.
