Six Individuals, Arrested in Marcel Assault Case; 3 Police Personnel Suspended

In a significant development in the assault case of Marcel fast food stall owner Viraj Mashelkar, Mardol Police have arrested six individuals, including two police personnel. 

The accused have been identified as Constable Sameer Phadte (46 years), attached to Ponda police station and a resident of Betki, IRB Police Mitesh Gad (27 years), and Mohit Gad (26 years), both residents of Navelim. Additionally, Supresh Sawardekar (31 years) from Aravalem, Vivek Desai (23 years) from Sanquelim, and Asmit Salunkhe (27 years) from Amona have also been apprehended in connection with the case.

A notice has been issued to ANC Police Constable Akash Navelkar (27 years) from Navelim in relation to the incident. Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Bossuet Silva has taken swift action by suspending Constable Sameer Phadte, Akash Navelkar, and Mitesh Gad. 

It can be recalled that on Sunday evening Viraj Mashelkar, fast-food stall owner in Marcel was mercilessly attacked by these 6 individuals and the entire incident was recorded on CCTV camera in Mashelkar’s stall. Victim Viraj and his family had demanded for justice and urged for strict action against the 6 accused persons. 

The assault case has raised concerns within the community, and the arrests send a strong message that law enforcement agencies are dedicated to ensuring justice prevails.
