BELGAUM: Six persons were injured in separate accidents along the Belgaum-Goa road via Chorla near Kankumbi.
In an accident that took place near Kankumbi on Saturday at about 11 pm, three of the four occupants of the car escaped with injuries.
According to the villagers, who witnessed the accident, the car rammed into a dumper which was proceeding from the opposite side.
“All the four, including the driver, were allegedly drunk, due to which the driver lost control over the vehicle,” said an eyewitness.
Khanapur PSI Shinde, who reached the spot Sunday afternoon, said the car was mysteriously missing as the vehicle was allegedly lifted from the accident spot without intimating the police. A case was registered against unknown persons at Khanapur Police station.
In another accident, three persons were injured when a car (MH-14-AV-2905) and a jeep (GA-05-T-2930) collided with each other on Sunday afternoon.
Three members of a family from Maharashtra including a woman and two children were injured, who were admitted to the government hospital in Belgaum.
While the Belgaum-Goa road via Chorla is on the verge of completion with the final layer of carpeting work on a stretch between Kankumbi and Chorla being carried out at a rapid pace, over speeding and treacherous curves on the road are causing several major and minor accidents at regular intervals.
“The road has become highly dangerous as four accidents were reported since January,” said PSI Shinde adding that the authorities need to divide the road with markings.
