VASCO: Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) administrator Gurudas Pilarnekar on Monday informed that he has formed six teams comprising five to six employees each to recover arrears, rent and to clear footpath and road from encroachments by vendors.

He said, “Business should be carried out by following the rules and regulations and not by creating hindrance to the commuters and traffic.”
He said, “Each team will visit 4-5 wards and has been given powers to issue notices and recover the amount for the municipal council.”
On footpath and road encroachments by some vendors, Pilarnekar said, “Illegalities and encroachments on footpaths and roads won’t be tolerated.”
Reacting to the allegations of MMC sabotaging the businesses of the small traders, Pilarnekar said, “MMC is not against the small traders. When certain area is given to some vendors they encroach on the roads and footpaths and cause inconvenience to traffic and pedestrians.”
He said, “Vasco is a small town and there are places earmarked. There is no need to keep commodities on roads and footpaths for display. People in any case will come to the vendors and buy what is needed. One can do business by following the rules and regulations”.
