Six newly-elected Quelossim panchas to oppose ‘Mini India’ park

Biodiversity Committee Chairman Lopinho Xavier said, “QuelossimVillage Panchayat is now in the safe hands of the panchayat members.”

VASCO: Six newly-elected panchayat members including Biodiversity Committee Chairman Lopinho Xavier from Quelossim Village Panchayat on Friday vowed to oppose the Mini-India Park project in the village. 

Xavier had lost the Zilla Panchayat (ZP) polls held in December 2020 but won the August 10 panchayat elections by eight votes from Ward No 1 reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Tribes (ST) community. The o ther new faces are Fransisco Xavier Figueiredo (Ward 3), Caetano Joe Tavares (Ward 4), Motecina Fernandes (Ward 5), Santana Da Silva (Ward 6) and Swoosie Mazel De Souza (Ward 7). 

Filomena Perpetua Figueiredo (Ward 2) was the only outgoing panchayat member who got re-elected. 

Outgoing Deputy Sarpa-nch Sebastian Serrao lost the elections in Ward 4. All the newly-elected panchayat members vowed to work against the Mini India Park Project and safeguard the village from any proposed destructive projects.  

Xavier said, “QuelossimVillage Panchayat is now in the safe hands of the panchayat members.” 

He claimed that all the newly-elected panchas had been opposing the controversial project in the village and further declared that the village panchayat will now not allow any destructive projects in the village.
