panjim:The State government, after quite a delay, on Wednesday promoted six Police Inspectors (PIs) to the rank of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DYSPs) as recommended by the Goa Public Service Commission (GPSC).

However, promotion of three officers are on ‘Regular’ basis while the remaining, who have been in controversy over serious charges, have been given the ‘Officiating’ charge.
The promotions were approved by the cabinet soon after which the Personnel Department issued two separate orders.
PIs Prabodh Shirwaikar, Harishandra Madkaikar and Santosh Desai have been promoted on ‘Regular’ ba-sis. As per the order signed by Under Secretary (Personnel) Maya Pednekar, the new DySPs will be on probation for two years but they have been asked to continue with their present post (as PIs) until further orders.
They will nonetheless be entitled for pay in the promotional post.
In a separate order, PIs Uday Parab, Sandesh Chodankar and Salim Sheikh have been promoted on ‘Officiating’ basis.
Their order states, “The promotion on officiating basis shall not bestow on officers, any claims for regular appointment; and the service rendered on officiating basis in the grade will not be counted for the purpose of seniority in the grade or for eligibility for promotion to the next higher grade,” reads the order.
These officers will also hold their present post as PIs till further orders.
The order comes on the day Herald reported about the delay in the government’s order while the news report also mentioned controversial tenure of the now Officiating DySPs including Chodankar who has faced suspension twice in the last one decade.
