Officials stated that the Goa government is expected to submit its response during the mandatory notice period before the GI tags are officially granted.

Meanwhile, five more Goan products — including Goan Pao, local sweets, and traditional metal crafts — have also entered the GI application process.

Goa already has GI recognition for several iconic products, including Harmal Chilli, Khola Chilli, Mankurad Mango, and Bebinca.

The move is expected to boost the preservation, branding, and market value of Goa’s traditional products and cultural heritage.
