The Konkan Railway Police Station, having jurisdiction over the railway stations along the Goa section of Konkan Railway route, was set up with an avowed objective of toning up security as well as to deal with law and order situations.
Sadly, an understaffed Konkan Railway Police Station is struggling to keep its day-to-day operations going for want of manpower. The police station located right near the railway footbridge, is headed by a Superintendent of Police based in Panjim. The post of a deputy Superintendent is lying vacant with Margao DySP Mohan Naik presently holding additional charge of the station. At long last, the Konkan Railway Police Station is finally headed by a full-fledged Police inspector, but the two posts of PSIs are lying vacant for some time now. Overall, the KR Railway Police Station is facing a shortage of 19 personnel as per the present strength.
Police officials in the know, however, say the existing strength needs an immediate review, saying the KR Police Station requires minimum 50 personnel to man the operations at the Margao, Tivim, Karmali and Canacona Railway Station. “We are helpless with the skeletal staff at our disposal. Even then, our personnel make their presence felt at the Margao Railway Station”, the official said.
Inquiries revealed that around 8-9 points at the Margao Railway Station are left unmanned for want of manpower at the disposal of the KR Station.
