PANJIM: The Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (DSDE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Putzmeister Concrete Machines Pvt Ltd, Verna, to upgrade the in demand ‘Welding Trait’ at ITI, the first state-of-the-art infrastructure that will be piloted at ITI Altinho,Panjim and then based on the results, impact ITI Bicholim and Vasco which will be taken up subsequently.
This is first of its kind Public Private Partnership (PPP) to holistically modernise ITIs in Goa, focusing on the growing demand for ‘Welding Trait’.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Dr Gururaj, Principal Advisor to Goa CSR Authority, Kanjanabha Bhattacharya, managing director of Putzmeister, Kishore Shah, managing trustee of GDP Foundation, S S Gaonkar, Director DSDE and Bhushan Sawaikar, Director of Higher Education.
The Chief Minister appreciated the partnering from industry and said that this was a leap in the leap year towards making Goa Atmanirbhar and Swayampurna.
The study project to upgrade the Welding trait which was designed by GDP Foundation at the three ITIs was also launched at the hands of Sawant. This study project surveyed all the three ITIs to understand the existing infrastructure, expertise, students, curriculum and mapped it with both existing and emerging demands in Goa and outside and then a triad team which had experts from Putzmeister recommended changes in the curriculum. The entire programme investment is about Rs 30 lakh which will be realised in three stages.
Swapnil from ITI Training Division, Allen Diniz (Putzmeister) and Rajesh Lolayekar, project manager of DSDE will oversee the execution of the modernised infrastructure at ITI Altinho, Panjim.
The modernised infrastructure is expected to be ready for inauguration by January 31 this year and the first batch of 20 students passing out in June 2024 will undergo the advance course and the meritorious students will be absorbed by Putzmeister subject to the demand /requirement at the plant in the State or elsewhere.
