VASCO: In a tragic incident reported at Varunapuri, a resident of Madkai died on the spot while two others were injured after an old slab of the Naval Technical Unit building in the Naval Aircraft Yard, collapsed on Thursday morning.
According to police, the incident claimed the life of Khemkant Naik (50), a resident of Madkai and left Sai Mahale from Canacona and Babasaheb Ajayanath Sangle injured.
According to sources, the incident occurred at around 10.30 am when the Naval Civil employees were working and the slab suddenly collapsed on Khemkant Naik killing him on the spot while a portion of the slab also fell on Sai and Babasaheb.
The Naval authorities rushed to the site and shifted all three to Jeevanti Hospital where doctors on duty declared Khemkant Naik as brought dead. Later, Sai and Babasaheb were shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) for further treatment.
According to doctors at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Bambolim, Babasaheb had sustained minor injuries and was likely to be discharged soon while Sai suffered injury to his leg and was admitted in the Orthopaedic ward.
On receiving information, the Vasco Police visited the site and conducted the panchanama.
Khemkant’s body was taken to the Hospicio, Margao for post-mortem examination and was later handed over to the family for last rites.
The case is being investigated by PSI Rohan Nageshkar under the guidance of Vasco PI Kapil Nayak and under the overall guidance of Mormugao DySP Salim Shaikh.
