Slab of old building comes crashing down at Mapusa; one injured, 4 vehicles damaged

MAPUSA: A portion of a slab of a 50-year-old building situated at Feira Baixa, near the Mapusa market road, collapsed on Friday morning. 

The Kasarkar Kochkar building, which was in a dangerous condition and on the verge of collapse, caused significant damage when the slab came crashing down. Three two-wheelers and two cars were damaged in the incident. 

The Mapusa fire personnel along with PI Nikhil Palyekar and his team rushed to the site to manage the situation.

Two persons including a labourer who was sleeping on the pavement right below the slab had a narrow escape. However, he sustained injuries and was hospitalised. 

The residents stated that they had been demanding inspection of the building by the Mapusa Municipal Council to avert further tragedy.
