HERALD REPORTER
PANJIM, ARRIL 12
The Crime Branch which is investigating the police-drug mafia links, has seized a computer hard disc containing property details of suspended Police Inspector Ashish Shirodkar even as it says some packets of narcotic drugs were eaten by white ants in the Anti-Narcotic Cell storeroom (malkhana).
Enquiries revealed that financial transactions including financial dealings were on the computer at Shirodkar’s friend’s residence at Caranzalem. After intensive interrogation, Shirodkar disclosed part of his financial dealings, sources said. Based on his statements, Crime Branch sleuths searched the house of his close friend where they found the matter on his computer. The computer hard-disk was attached and later sent to CFSL, Hyderabad .
The Crime Branch, the sources said, is investigating into the income of the suspended police inspector and the investments he has made so far. Obviously, they have set their eyes on the linkages with drug pushers.
It is learnt that the sleuths are in possession of some of Shirodkar’s financial transaction records.
The Crime branch has also written to some banks to verify
whether the suspended PI had fixed deposit accounts with them.
White ants: The Crime Branch has now found that some packets containing narcotic drugs that were placed in the ANC storeroom (malkhana) have been eaten by white ants. Besides, some sealed packets were found in unsealed condition.
It may be recalled that Atala, an alleged Israeli pusher, had on youtube said that the suspended police inspector Ashish Shirodkar was diverting drugs seized by the police back into market through him.
According to Crime Branch there is ground to believe that allegations levelled against the suspended cop are genuine.
Our sources said, muddemal seized during raids is kept in separate safe and the drugs
received from the courts is kept in the godown.
However, the exhibits are removed from the go-down by policemen and therefore , what the accused Atala narrated in the video o website appear to be genuine, officials feel.
Meanwhile, Shirodkar today withdrew his bail application filed before High Court on Monday.
Five cops were suspended and put under arrest after their alleged links with drug peddlers came to light days after the expose of police-drug mafia links through a video footage of Atala on youtube.
While they filed for bail before NDPS (Narcotics, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Court in Mapusa, the court declined to decide their bail applications for want of jurisdiction following which they moved the High Court.
While deciding their applications, the High Court ruled that the NDPS Court has jurisdiction to decide bails pleas. The application of Shirodkar was placed for hearing today . However, he has the withdrawn application with a liberty to go before the NDPS Court.
Absconding cop Sanjay Parab who had filed for anticipatory bail before High Court has also withdrawn his application.
