MARGAO: The office of the Sub-divisional Magistrate, Margao, has put in place a slew of measures aimed at ensuring efficiency and transparency and to make the administration people friendly.
And, if SDM Ajit Panchwadkar is to be believed, the new system and time-bound programme has begun to give results, with the taluka mamlatdars disposing off as many as 670 mutation cases within four days, which have been pending for months together for want of certification. “Within four days, the mamlatdars have cleared as many as 670 mutation cases which were pending for certification. This happened after my office gave a four-day time frame for the officials to clear the cases awaiting certification,” he said.
Citizens coming to the SDM’s office for partition cases have come across pigeon boxes kept on the tables. The reason is simple. In the past, all the partition cases pertaining to all the villages were placed into one big box, putting the citizens to hardships while locating their documents. “What we have done now is simple. We have placed one pigeon box for every village so that people from that village go into the box and look for their documents. This will certainly save the time of the citizens and help in serving them better,” Panchwadkar said.
And, to clear the backlog of partition cases, the office has issued clear instructions to the staff to issue notices to the parties within 10 days upon receiving an application.
Incidentally, for the first time, the SDM office has now displayed the name of the sections on the counters as well as the designation of the staff manning a particular section.
As far as the mutation cases are concerned, strict instructions have gone to the mamlatdars to issue notices within 10 day after receiving the application. “It has been decided that the staff has to maintain a daily diary of work. All pendency will be reviewed every day at 10 am,” he added.
