PANJIM: RTO offices across Goa witnessed long queues of people waiting to register their new vehicles on the auspicious occasion of Dussehra.
The rush to register new cars and bikes on Dussehra had begun on Friday morning with almost 100 cars and bikes being registered in the State capital itself. Similar scenes were played out at all RTO offices across the state.
As per officials, Panjim RTO earned Rs 37 lakh from the 161 vehicles registered and Vasco RTO earned Rs 18.62 lakh in the form of taxes from the 128 vehicles registered. Margao registered 148 vehicles, but the figure of tax collected was not available.
The previous year had seen the Directorate of Transport earn a whopping Rs 3.32 crore from 1581 vehicles registered on Dussehra, with Mapusa being the highest in terms of road tax revenue with Rs 83.29 lakh revenue followed by Margao with 64.85 lakh and Panjim with 38.05 lakh.
“This year there has been a slight decrease in the vehicle registrations. Every year, 75 percent of the vehicles registered are two-wheelers, while four-wheelers account for around 25 percent” said a RTO official.
“Our RTO offices were open today so that people are not inconvenienced on this auspicious day,” he added.
