PANJIM: Questions has arisen once again over the Smart City’s project’s smartness after another sewage suction tanker overturned at Tonca, Panjim as a portion of the road caved in on Saturday.
A portion of Smart road at Tonca was opened for vehicular traffic recently. According to passersby, the road caved in when the driver of the tanker was trying to move the vehicle in reverse gear.
The incident again brought to the fore ‘irresponsible’ works carried out by the Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL).
In the month of February this year, a sewage suction truck partially sank in one of the roads at Tonca, which was dug to carry out sewerage work. The road in ward number 8 caved in when the heavy vehicle was taking its round in the morning.
In few days later in the same month, a loaded tanker had fallen in a pit at St Inez, injuring four labourers. None of the two accident sites had any proper safety measures in place with the District Administration yet to take the issue seriously.
The ongoing works being carried out across the capital city have led to huge chaos and giving horrible time to people, especially the motorists, besides causing dust pollution.
While the contractors are evading from being booked, it is only the drivers of the vehicles which are being booked for negligent driving.
