Smart City will not tax residents: Panjim MLA

Consultants ICLEI South Asia, GSIDC identify lapses in Smart City proposals; new proposal will be finalised after seeking inputs from residents

PANJIM: Panjim MLA Siddharth Kuncolienkar on Saturday assured that no additional taxes would be imposed on Panjimites in the implementation of the Smart City Development Mission.
“No additional taxes will be imposed on Panjim residents as user charges for Smart City Mission. No normal person will be affected with the project,” Kuncolienkar told media persons stating that the fare for hop-on-hop-off buses would be charged as any other bus ticketing system.
The BJP legislator said the consultant, ICLEI South Asia, and the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation have analyzed the smart city proposals (SCP) of the 20 cities which were selected in the first phase and have identified the lapses with SCP for Panjim.
“We have identified the gaps and now we are trying to overcome it by modifying the SCP seeking necessary inputs from the winning SCPs,” he said adding that Panjim ranks 5th in the Smart City Fast Track competition. The deadline for submission of new SCP before the Centre is April 15.
Kuncolienkar said the State government has already announced in its Budget that it is committed to provide financial support to the Smart City and AMRUT schemes.
