PANJIM: The capital city will soon sport smart parking and intelligent traffic signals proposed by the Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd, to ease traffic snarls.
The proposal was discussed during joint between officials of Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd, Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP), Directorate of Transport and Traffic Police on Monday.
As many as seven traffic junctions across the city were earlier identified to install intelligent traffic management signals besides smart parking for 1000 vehicles on trial basis at the EDC Plaza, Patto, Panjim.
The smart parking at Patto will be controlled by the integrated command and control centre to be set up at Altinho.
The intelligent traffic signals will regulate the flow of traffic by controlling the duration of red and green lights at traffic intersections. If there is a long queue on one route then the signal of the other route having less density of traffic will automatically stop and allow movement of traffic on the route having more density.
The officials of The Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd has now asked the CCP and Traffic Police to identify/suggest the new places to install intelligent traffic signals while, the CCP officials told them to make provision for nearly 7000 smart parking areas in the city.
