SANGUEM: Councillors of Sanguem Municipal Council Meshu D’Costa and Sangameshwar Naik, who threatened to stage agitation from August 1, if the road from Dando to Sanguem is not repaired, have postponed their agitation after PWD Executive Engineer Vasuraj Karmalkar assured to undertake the repair work from August 2.

It may be recalled that the councillors with support from Sanguem locals had staged a road blockade at Sanguem on July 13, demanding immediate concretisation and repairs to the little over 1.7 kms of road from Dando to Sanguem Police Station which was dug for laying of drinking water pipeline by PWD Water Supply Division while the monsoon was round the corner.

After laying the pipeline, almost half the road was left in deplorable condition making the commuters face harrowing experience.

However, despite several requests and reminders to the authorities, the PWD failed in getting the road repaired ultimately making the councillors resort to road blockade during which time the PWD had assured to get the damaged portion of the road concretised by end of July failing which the councillors had threatened to agitate further from August 1.

However, as the deadline set to expire on Saturday, Executive Engineer Karmalkar assured the councillors of starting the repair works from August 2.
