SANGUEM: The inordinate delay caused in the completion of the construction work of the Sanguem Municipal Council (SMC) Rest House building has raised eyebrows as to when the Rest House would be ready for occupation.
The project work of the construction of Sanguem Municipal Rest House was commenced in the year 2015. The foundation stone for the building premise was laid by former Chief Minister (late) Manohar Parrikar.
The building project is undertaken at the cost of Rs 1 crore, which was sanctioned to the SMC by (late) Manohar Parrikar under the Golden Jubilee Funds of Goa’s Independence.
Incidentally, even after a period of four years of the commencement of the construction work, the project is yet to be completed.
While major part of the construction work stands completed, a lot of finishing work needs to be done, according to Sanguem residents.
Questioning why the project has taken so much of time, locals stated that if the project work stands completed and ready for occupation, the SMC, which is otherwise facing a cash crunch would have got a better source of revenue to fill its coffers.
SMC Chairperson Romualdo Fernandes, while speaking to Herald, said that he has been after the contractor to get the project work completed at the earliest. Fernandes informed that since major part of the building project stands completed, it will take another two months to complete the remaining work. Fernandes assured of getting the project ready for occupation by end of December 2019.
