Smoke from transformer near Mapusa Church causes scare

MAPUSA: The Mapusa fire officials informed that smoke was seen emitting from an electric transformer near St Jerome’s Church, Mapusa which created a panic on Tuesday afternoon. However, no damage to residential or commercial property was reported.
On receiving the call, the fire officials rushed to the site at 1.25 pm and shut down the main line at the Tivim substation. The timely intervention by the Mapusa fire officials prevented fire incident at the transformer.
A fire official said that they receive frequent calls of smoke emitting from transformers in the city. 
The Mapusa fire station received another call at 5.48 pm of fire set to dry grass in a field at Nachinola.
