PONDA: Pondaites suffering harrowing rides getting out of their home, thanks to the four-year long running dug roads for the snail-paced sewerage work demanded quick hotmixed proper road. Suffering the same woes Ponda MLA Ravi Naik urged the government to expedite the sewerage work and complete it before monsoon.
It may be recalled that four years back the work on Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) for Ponda , Kavlem, Bandora and Curti were commenced at estimated cost of Rs 535 crore. The roads are dug for laying sewerage network lines and chambers in all these villages. It was expected to complete in 2018 however the work is delayed and progressing at slow pace.
Its’s not only the city but roads are also dug at Curti, Kavlem and Bandora Panchayat but as work on STPs are pending it has also delayed the hotmix carpeting of the roads. It has becoming risky and number of cases of accidents by bikers, parent bringing children to school in City are increasing due worsened condition of roads.
Especially during rainy season in past four years, many bike riders were injured and received fractures as it was difficult to judge and ride skirting around the caved road and negotiating through pothole filled with rain water.
The completing sewerage work is essential to conduct the hotmixing of Ponda roads because it is obvious hotmixing will be go wasted as number of spots are yet to be dug.
MLA Naik said he is constantly doing follow up with PWD and Sewerage Officials. Every Wednesday the review meeting is also held. “Today the sewerage officials said that sewerage work would be completed between April and May. This means the hotmixing work at Ponda would get delayed,” he said.
He urged the PWD Minister to complete STP at earliest considering the hardship faced by the locals. He also said all the files related to hotmixing of roads are waiting for financial approval from the government.
PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar had recently held review meeting with government officials at Rajiv Kala Mandir Ponda.
“I was present for that meeting wherein the Minister had announced that the road hotmixing work at Ponda would begin from February 20 and today it is February 24 and there is no sign of commencing of the work,” Naik said.
