A day after Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant warned ST community to beware of Urban Naxalites activity in Goa, social activists condemned the Urban Naxalite statement made by CM on Sunday. On Saturday, the chief minister made a plea to party members not to exclude people based on their religion or caste. He cautioned that if they get isolated, they will fall prey to the “Urban Naxals” who are active in Goa and are attempting to split people along caste and religious lines.
Social activists in Azad Maidan, Panjim, on Sunday expressed concern about the Chief Minister’s remarks on Urban Naxalite. The activists consisting of Rama Kankonkar, Shankar Polji and Pratima Coutinho demanded an immediate explanation from CM to clarify for his remarks on Urban Naxalite and also requested CM to arrest those urban Naxalites who are active within 24 hours.
Rama Kankonkar, one of the social activists explained, “Who are these Naxalites? I would want to question the Chief Minister. We are the ones who have generated all awareness of constitutional rights. Nobody else, besides us, raises awareness. Naxalites must be apprehended right away if they are in Goa since they represent a threat to the SC ST community.”
Social activists have responded to the statement made by CM warning SC, ST community on Urban Naxalite, they have threaten to hold a protest at Azad maidan if the Chief Minister fails to give a proper clear justification over his remarks.
“As the CM has stated confidently, there must be Naxalites in Goa; otherwise, why would he say such a thing I ask all opposition parties to urge that the Naxalites be apprehended if the Chief Minister’s statement about them is accurate.” Rama kankonkar emphasised.
Social activists Shankar Polji highlighted the consequences of such political tactics and urged all Goans not to fall prey in such matter. “I expect an explanation from the Chief Minister as the remark he made yesterday is false. I believe that CM used the term “Urban Naxalite” to disparage all of us social activists. I humbly ask all Goans to avoid becoming victims of these politicians and their tactics. They are now lobbyists for coal, prostitutes, casinos, and drugs. They have obliterated opposition. These days, activists are a vital part of the opposition to the administration. Since we are now the opposition, they have labelled us as Urban Naxalites.” Said Shankar Polji
