MARCEL, SEPT 7
Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) officials on Tuesday confiscated sweets (farsan) worth Rs 30,000 from a sweet mart and expired soft drinks worth Rs 6,000 in Ponda.
According to FDA officials, two persons have been detained in this connection and it is a statewide drive against illegal manufacturing of food items.
FDA Director Salim Veljee informed that on Tuesday, FDA food inspectors confiscated unlabeled farsan worth Rs 30,000 and soft drinks worth Rs 6,000, which had crossed consumable date limit.
Veljee further informed that the sweet mart owner, who was selling farsan, claimed that he had manufactured the farsan.
“However, the packets did not have any labels and the sweet mart owner had not obtained any food license from the FDA,” claimed Veljee.
“Two persons have been detained in his connection and further investigation is in progress,” said Veljee.
“Food Inspectors Abel Rodrigues and Shivdas Naik conducted the raids and such raids will continue,” informed Veljee.
