PERNEM: The illegal dumping of soil in the river at Mandrem allegedly with the intention to carry out construction has drawn the ire of the locals who have vowed to raise their voice against it.
The locals are all set to corner the panchayat on this issue and have placed a written question which will be placed before the gram sabha on January 22 and might be a topic for heated discussion.
The river flows through Arambol and then pours into the Arabian Sea at Ashvem. As per the CRZ law, no concrete construction can be carried out within 100 meters from the riverline but a restaurant owner is allegedly expanding his business by violating the CRZ ruled.
The incident adds to the ever growing list of attempts of violating CRZ and a hotly discussed debate is anticipated at the gram sabha on Sunday.
