Due to heavy downpour, mud has covered the road at Curti, which was widened on both sides a month ago as part of the four-laning of the National Highway.
Since there is no signboard cautioning the motorists of the dangers of commuting along the route, the authorities have placed barrels tied with ribbons on both sides of the widened road, further putting the commuters’ lives at risk especially at night.
“Due to the road widening work, three electric poles along the route stand precariously and are likely to uproot due to the loose mud following the heavy downpour,” said Umesh Naik, a local.
“We are worried as many people in the housing board area use the internal road, which has been widened as part of the four-laning of the bypass and the overbridge work currently underway along the National Highway,” he added.
Curti locals have demanded the highway authorities to look into the matter before any untoward incident takes place.
