PANJIM: The Kargil Vijay Diwas was celebrated in the State on Tuesday, to commemorate the 23rd anniversary of the Kargil war victory. Director General of Police (DGP) Jaspal Singh and other dignitaries paid glowing tributes to those who sacrificed their lives for the country.
DGP Singh said that all officers including young officers along with defence forces and police showed their valour and played a major role to cement India’s victory during the Kargil war. He also said that the country’s intelligence agency gave an invaluable contribution. Singh said that war always affects the country’s progress and economy. He said that India always tried to maintain peace with its neighbours. But the country has to be prepared to protect its borders and people. He said that the Indian Armed forces fought against its enemies.
Rajya Sainik Board secretary Venugopal also spoke at the event. Venugopal said that the Kargil war lasted for 50 days and it was a war where young officers and junior leaders including NCC cadets played a pivotal role.
A similar programme was organised by the Goa Human Resources Development Corporation at Porvorim.
