PANJIM: The private Bus operators owning taxis on Monday gave three days time to the Transport Department to resolve their issues or face protests.
Speaking to media persons outside the Transport Department office, All Goa private Bus Owners Association General Secretary Sudip Tamhankar demanded immediate action against taxis from other States entering Goa without digital meters.
Tamhankar said that two days back local taxi operators stopped a taxi bearing Maharashtra registration number but without digital meter at Assonora and that the matter was reported to the police for further investigation.
Tamhankar also complained that there were two to three incidents wherein air bags of taxis were damaged while fitting meters. Taxi operators are facing technical problems while fitting meters and the transport director is not ready to listen to their woes, he said.
Tamhankar also expressed his surprise at the Transport Department’s decision asking 14-seater vehicle operators to fit digital meters. He said that the incident occurred when the vehicle owner had gone to the Transport Department to transfer the permit of the vehicle.
How can a 14-seater vehicle, which is classified as Maxi Cab and not Motor Cab be asked to fit digital meters?, he asked.
Alleging that the transport director is refusing to meet them to discuss their demands, Tamhankar warned that they have now given three days to the director to resolve their demands or to face protests from Thursday.
