PANJIM: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Kisan Morcha (KM) said that a large section of farmers/tenants and mundkars have not applied to the Mamlatdars to obtain declaration as tenants and mundkars.
In a statement applauding the amendment to the Goa Agricultural Tenancy Act 1964 through which cases will revert to Mamlatdars from the Civil Courts, the Morch president Shankar Chodankar alleged that certain associations were misguiding these communities.
“A very large number of farmers/tenants have not applied to the Mamlatdar for obtaining declaration as tenants. The declaration is necessary for ultimate purchase of farmland by tenants. Similarly, under the Mundkar Act, the mundkars have to apply to the Mamlatdar to register themselves as mundkars, and after registration they can buy the house along with the land,” Chodankar said.
He pointed out that about 3000 applications for declaration as tenants and 1000-odd applications under the Mundkar Act are pending with Mamlatdars.
The BJP-KM chief further alleged that ‘self-styled’ mundkar-tenants associations are misguiding the people. “Do not fall prey to the self-styled mundkar-tenant associations’ mischievous propaganda but to benefit of the agrarian legislation by following due process prescribed in the respective law,” he added.
